Hey there! My name is Nikolay Stoyanov and I am born and raised in Bulgaria.
My interest in search engine optimization began back in 2008 when I first heard the abbreviation SEO.
Let me start my introduction by saying that I never studied marketing or anything that has to do with SEO. I am self-taught. Everything I learned about SEO I read in the books or online. I have a masters degree in transport technology and management and am a transport engineer by diploma.
As a freshly graduated student my first job in the IT niche was as a content manager. I worked for a software and web development company named ICYGEN in my hometown Sofia. The year was 2007. I spent 1 year and 3 months there. My responsibilities were simple – to copy paste and edit text and images for our clients. It was an easy job but I was very happy that I had a chance to follow my dream. I was working for an IT agency! During my time there I was lucky enough to share a room with one of the most renowned SEOs in Bulgaria – Stanislav Dimitrov. He was the first SEO I knew in person. Actually, he’s the guy who opened my eyes to the world of search engine optimization.
After I left the company I moved to a similar position. This time I worked for a popular online cultural guide – Programata.bg. There I spent 6 months during which I used every single minute to read about my new passion – SEO. In the summer of 2008, I created my first website Lilacor.com – a personal blog where I wrote articles on SEO basics while improving my skills as an SEO newbie.
Next, I moved to a transport company which was providing DKV cards – a fuel card service. I felt that I should have at least some practical experience in the transport niche. I spent almost 2.5 years there and never stopped mastering my practical SEO skills. My blog Lilacor.com started ranking in top 3 for almost all SEO related keywords in Bulgaria and I slowly but surely built a name for myself.
On 01/ 01/ 2011 I had to leave my job because the transport company was facing bankrupt and had to shorten their staff. This was the best thing that happened to my career as an SEO expert. Since this moment I started investing all my time in my SEO blog and I consider this date the start of my professional SEO career. In just 3 months I got my first clients and was able to support myself from my online services alone.
At the end of 2014, I was spotted and approached by a big Canadian pharmaceutical company. They offered me a contract which I was too good to refuse and I spent the next year as a Head of Search for them, looking after their company websites. This was a huge success for me as an SEO freelancer and helped me take my professional skills and knowledge to the next level.
In November 2015 I came across Brian Dean’s SEO That Works online course and purchased it. This was a game changer for me! Brian opened my eyes to pure white hat SEO and since that moment I decided to change all my techniques and managed to win me over for his methods. I truly believe that this is the future of white hat SEO.
Immediately after I graduated Brian’s course I had a conversation with my boss in which I tried to explain the new SEO techniques which I was absolutely convinced we must embrace ASAP. Unfortunately, it turned out we had different views and I decided to hand my resignation and to move forward on my own as a freelancer.
In February 2016 I registered the domain NikSto.com and founded my new SEO company. This time I was going to try and find clients worldwide which was a tough task but I managed! A year later I already have a small but stable client base and can safely say that the hardest times are behind my back (fingers crossed).
