find email address

Finding the email address of potential customers’ and influencers’ is one of the most important aspects of digital marketing and SEO.

No matter what you’re doing online, it is necessary to be able to reach these people and give present them with your proposal.

However, the process oftentimes stops dead in its track due to inability to prospect emails.

If you weren’t able to find person’s contact details this one is on you as there are numerous ways to do so. You’ve probably heard of most of them but having additional knowledge can never hurt.

Without further ado, let’s check the best ways to find emails addresses on the Internet.

  1. Basic Google search

Let’s start with the obvious choice – Google.

Basically, all you have to do is type in influencer’s name and the search engine will return numerous results.

Some of the most popular and well working queries you can try using are:

Personal name + email

Personal name + contact

In most cases, you can find keywords “email” and “contact” on the same page where you can find name.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t always work so I suggest trying an additional search query:

Personal name + @

If you use the symbol @, Google will quickly return all the pages where the chosen name can be found together with this symbol.

Given that commercial at is exclusively used for emails this means you will receive all the pages with email associated to this person’s name.

  1. About and contact pages

Oftentimes you can find all the required information on individual’s blog.

First, visit their website.

Chances are there will be one of these 5 most common tabs:

  • About us
  • About me
  • Contact
  • Team
  • Who are we?

Anyway, given that your target is probably the owner of the site or some other high level manager, they will likely be mentioned on the “About” page.

Besides description, you should find person’s email and social profiles.

However, if the email is not disclosed and you have only found person’s social profiles – no worries!

You need to try trick number 3, 4 or 5.

Let’s jump right in!

  1. Facebook

Everybody uses Facebook these days.

Have in mind that there are a lot of people who do not wish to disclose their private information including their email address.

They only show it to those who they trust and to close business partners.

But while you might have removed your personal info from the blog, there is a good chance it remained on Facebook.

Here is the path you should try:

Personal profile > About > Contact and Basic Info > Email

If that doesn’t work you can go to “Overview” and here you can click on company’s data.

Sometimes people show their email on their company’s Facebook page even though they might have omitted it from the website itself.

  1. LinkedIn (my favorite method to find email address)

LinkedIn is a bit trickier when it comes to extracting emails but here’s why I simply love this method to find email addresses.

Like with Facebook, you need to start by clicking on person’s profile.

LinkedIn presents categories in a different way.

Instead of having separate tabs for information like Facebook, it shows profile page in a form of CV – all categories will be on one page.

So you can see different stuff such as “Basic info”, “Education”, “Work experience” and such.

This can prove to be a bit overwhelming and can deter you from finding the right data.

In order to save time, you can click CTRL + F on your keyboard and type “@” (without the quotes!). If you get some results – BOOM, nice job!

It is the same as with Google where you’re trying to find anything relating to an email address.

WORD OF CAUTION: Given that you can see both the current and previous positions that a person held, you might stumble upon an email that individual used in their former company.

Be careful and always double check.

Nik’S PRO TIP: Finally, I will tell you my favorite approach for finding anyone’s email address on LinkedIn:

  1. Perform a search with FIRST and LAST NAME in LinkedIn search box
  2. Make sure you’ve found the right person by checking their picture and credentials
  3. Send the person a personalized invitation request (don’t just click on the “invite” button, you’ll be missing out on a lot of opportunities by skipping the personalized part!)
  4. Once the person adds you back you’re set – just visit their profile and get their real, verified email address
  5. Twitter

Twitter is a part of big three social networks.

Unfortunately, in terms of finding emails, it is the hardest one to use.

Unlike Facebook and LinkedIn, people tend to omit personal information on Twitter. Nevertheless, you still might find some email address through it.

All you have to do is visit “Profile page” and there will be a description on the left where the person might’ve shared their email.

Keep in mind that (based on what I’ve seen) business owners are more likely to leave their company URL on Twitter.

If there is no email on their Twitter account and you haven’t checked the website, this could be a good opportunity to do so (see point #2).

  1. Extension search

Sometimes just by using your common sense and testing a few search queries in Google you can do miracles.

Let’s say you know the name of the website and the email extension that employees are using.

Now, you can try and search all the related emails that have such an extension.

For example, you are trying to find someone who is working for Niksto.com website.

In this case, you will be using this simple, yet very effective query:

This is a generic extension that all employees working for Niksto company are using.

So, search engine will return numerous results, emails of employees that are working for this SEO company.

Among them you might even find your target person.

Cool, eh?

  1. Who.is

Who.is is a tool that gives you intimate knowledge of a website.

First thing you have to do is type person’s email address in the search box of Who.is.

The tool will then return several tabs including:

  • Registrar Info
  • Important Dates
  • Name Servers
  • Similar Domains
  • Registrar Data

You need to focus on Registrar Data tab.

Here, you will find a tab with an email address.

That email will belong to webmaster or better yet, the guy who has registered the domain and this owns the site.

WORD OF CAUTION: Have in mind that this email was relevant in moment of domain registration. The person may have changed their email somewhere along the way so this information may not be relevant.

Another issue that may occur is that the domain was sold and the previous owner is still listed as the current one.

This is why you should always check the name of the owner and see if it coincides with the name of the guy you’re looking for.

  1. Spokeo

Spokeo is a pretty amazing software.

According to its creator, this tool was created so it can reconnect people.

There are several ways you can use this program.

You need to type either one of these things:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Phone
  • Address

into search bar and the tool will return numerous data about the individual.

Problem occurs if there are several people with the same name and you’re not exactly sure who you’re searching for.

Keep in mind that the tool will provide various info including even relatives names.

It is quite precise but it isn’t the best fit for scraping emails as it may prove to be hard distinguishing your target among various individuals.

  1. Buzzstream

Buzzstream is often regarded as one of the best email outreach tools.

Here, the process is a bit different.

Search is based on keywords being used for various content.

When you enter some phrase, the tool will return various articles on that topic giving you opportunity to contact the author or website in question.

The software will then provide all the emails and social media contacts it can scrape which are related to that website.

Nevertheless, it will be rather easy to determine which one belongs to your primary target.

It is a tool that bases its search on content and bloggers.

Although it may not be the ideal software when you look for an individual’s email, it is a great support during email outreach campaigns.

  1. Ninja Outreach

Very similar to Buzzstream, Ninja Outreach is a tool that is mainly focused on outreach campaigns.

Like Buzzstream it is based on content search.

You are typing a keyword and the software will return results similar to those found in some of the popular search engines.

However, the biggest differences is the fact that here, you can apply various filters.

For example, you can filter your results based on the fact whether the person has an email address or not.

This is great for bigger campaigns as you can perform influencer outreach directly from the tool without ever having to leave it.

  1. Yellow pages and business pages

Always have in mind that most websites found on the Internet represent actual, real world companies.

This means that most of them are registered within a proper legislative body.

This also means they will be featured in business pages and other advertising material that promotes local businesses.

If you have issues finding the email of a person through all before mentioned methods, you can always try and find them through business and advertising registers like Yellow pages.

Finding the right email address is the first step to a successful outreach campaign.

There are of course some other methods that can be used for contacting people such as social media. Nevertheless, most people see emails as an official, standard and professional method of addressing a stranger.

That being said, if you’re launching a full-scale cold outreach campaign, you might wish to consider some of these programs and tricks that can scrape emails for you.

Always remember that with every additional correct email, your chances of high conversion increase and you are more likely to make some serious connections, get more backlinks or money.
